RDP North East
Event Update
Hot on the heels of the fabulous training events with Antonio Venturino, Tim Wheeler and Sylvia Bloch, NAYT is proud to invite you to a special two-day training opportunity in improvisation and storytelling. Working in partnership with County Durham Drama initiative “Elements” this will be led by Kepow Theatre Director Kevin Tomlinson. The weekend is also an opportunity to meet impro. company “The Suggestibles” prior to their programme of work with youth theatres in the region. Who is it for? Those people who work in youth theatre/youth arts or youth work settings, drama facilitators/performers. NAYT positively encourages attendance by those new to the field with less experience and those from under represented communities. What’s in it? Two days of theatre training exploring the use of improvisation techniques for rehearsal and performance with young people. It will involve games, exercises and devising techniques and be a useful refresher course for those interested in exploring improvisation in more depth. The two days will culminate in a sharing of work for an invited youth theatre audience and a performance by Kevin of his new one-man show. The weekend will also be a springboard to upcoming work with youth theatres by the renowned regional impro. company ‘The Suggestibles.’ Where is it? The Store, Co-operative Terrace, Dipton, near Stanley, County Durham, DH9 9AH. When is it? Saturday 13 November 2004. 9.45am registration for a 10.00am start to 6.00pm. Sunday 14 November 2004. Times TBC. Timings for lunch, etc will be decided collectively at the event. What to bring? Please bring your own food. How much does it cost? Thanks to significant subsidy we can offer the course to NAYT members and practitioners based in the Northern Region at a cost of only £20.00. To those outside the region there will be a charge of £50 per day. This does not include food which you will have to bring separately. A receipt will be issued for monies received as a confirmation of your place(s). How do I book? Please call the NAYT office for a booking form. There are a limited number of places on the course so book early to avoid disappointment. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. This is a partnership project between NAYT and Elements, supported by Arts Council England, North East, DfES and Theatre Cap a Pie.

FOLLOWING THE SUCCESS of the day-long workshop in October, Antonio Venturino is now able to bring his unique talents to us for an extended period to work with Moliere’s The Flying Doctor and produce a performance with us as well as presenting his own acclaimed Mistero Buffo on the Friday night. The venue for the week will be New College, Durham.
Antonio has over 15 years of experience as an actor/director. He was born in Sicily in 1965 and trained first in Rome at Il Circo Vapore - akin to Lecoq in Paris - and later at the world famous Piccolo Teatro in Milan, under Ferruccio Soleri, who remains today the master of commedia. Antonio has worked all over Italy performing in a huge range of shows and toured throughout England. He collaborated with Dario Fo to produce a version of the one-man show Mistero Buffo in Sicilian dialect and to date he has performed it over 600 times with outstanding reviews and awards. Although he still works regularly in Italy, Antonio now lives in Nottingham where he and English actress Tina Harris founded Coup de Masque in 1997. As well as performing their own work they teach the techniques of Commedia dell’Arte in many drama schools, colleges, universities and state schools and lead a wide variety of workshops for many professional theatre companies.
