Youth theatres make a vital contribution to our society, bringing opportunities for personal growth, creativity and enjoyment to thousands of young people. Youth theatres exist in every area of the country and vary enormously in terms of type and size. Some, like those based at the regional theatres, are large, well established and operate with paid employees. However, far more youth theatre groups are smaller with few resources. In fact, hundreds of groups are run either by volunteers or with just one part-time employee with wide ranging responsibilities. These voluntary groups are the sorts of youth theatre that have been particularly kept in the compilation of support material. We have strived to make its content reflect the spirit and energy that characterises the best of all youth theatre.
