Croydon Youth Theatre are seeking playwrights aged 12 to 15

Purpose of the role

To work with a director and a group of up to twenty 12-15 year olds to develop a script out of a fast paced devising process. The play should be 45 minutes long, be responsive to the ideas and characters from the devising group and reflect contemporary themes.

08/08/22 - 9am-6pm | Devising Day 1

09/08/22 - 9am-6pm | Devising Day 2

10/08/22 - 9am-6pm | Devising Day 3

11/08/22 - 9am-6pm | Devising Day 4 - Draft 1 submitted by 10pm

12/08/22 - 9am-6pm | Read through and redrafts (Participants to learn lines over the weekend)

15/08/22 - 19/08/22 | To be responsive to the directors requests for minor re-drafts

20/08/22 - 3pm & 7pm | Performances

Skills

To be registered self employed
To have experience of working in a dynamic and fast-paced production process
To have experience in rapid-response writing
To have experience writing for 12-15 years olds who may have little to no experience of performing
To have experience of writing for large casts
To have experience of working in the rehearsal room
To have excellent literacy skills
To be an excellent communicator
To be solutions driven
To have or be willing to undergo a DBS check.
To have an understanding of safeguarding and child protection
To have experience of and a passion for working with young people (8-11years)
To have teaching or facilitation experience
