Job Description

To lead on the development of the work of York Theatre Royal's Youth Theatre including:

  • Growing the existing cohort of Youth Theatre participants

  • Maintaining and controlling a robust administrative system

  • Managing the freelance staff team and taking overall artistic responsibility for Youth Theatre output

Reports to: Head of Creative Engagement

Salary: £32,122 per annum

Working Hours: 40 hours a week

Job Requirements

Essential

  • At least 3 years professional experience of devising and delivering youth theatre

  • Experience of directing children & young people across different age ranges

  • Enthusiasm, positivity, imagination and the drive to motivate and inspire people

  • Have artistic vision and ambition with the ability to collaborate

  • Experience of leading and mentoring a team and ability to build rapport and relationships with colleagues

  • Be an advocate for young people and young people's work

  • Demonstrable commitment to inclusion, equality and diversity

  • Understanding of theatre skills, practice and pedagogy

  • Exceptional and demonstrable organisational, communication and administrative skills

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills

  • Ability to work regular evenings & weekends as necessary

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Knowledge of safeguarding practice

  • Applicant must clear an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (Disclosure and Barring Service) check

Desirable

  • Proven track record of working with those underserved in the arts

  • Experience of commissioning and working with writers

  • Full driving licence
