We’re seeking an inspiring Saturday morning drama and movement facilitator to lead our 14+ Youth Theatre as part of National Theatre’s Connections programme starting this Autumn. Champion young voices through exciting, collaborative performance work.

Are you passionate about empowering young people through theatre? Jigsaw Balham is seeking a dynamic and inspiring Youth Theatre Director to lead our 14+ Youth Theatre company on Saturday mornings from September 2025, including participation in the National Theatre's Connections programme.
About the Role
You'll work with committed and creative young people aged 14-18, guiding them through an exciting year of collaborative theatre-making, culminating in performances for NT Connections. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead process-focused, high-quality youth theatre that celebrates every voice.
We're looking for someone who:
Has experience directing or facilitating youth theatre or similar projects
Is confident teaching movement and voice based work
Is confident leading devised and scripted work
Can create a safe, inclusive, and energised environment
Is reliable, collaborative, and passionate about young people's creative potential

Start Date: September 2025
When: Saturday mornings
Location: Chestnut Grove Academy, Balham SW12
Pay: From £25 per hour, depending on experience
Commitment: Autumn, Spring and Summer Terms (Sept-July), including NT Connections timeline
Job Requirements
Experience directing or facilitating youth theatre or similar creative projects
Confidence in leading both devised and scripted work
Ability to teach basic movement and voice-based techniques
Strong communication and organisational skills
Commitment to inclusive, youth-led practice
Availability on Saturday mornings
Availability to attend the Connections Directors' Weekend (one Saturday in October) at the National Theatre
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
Willingness to work closely and collaboratively with the Owner of school (Emily)
Commitment for the whole year to see the programme through
Job Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, process-driven Youth Theatre sessions for ages 14-18
Direct the group's participation in the National Theatre Connections programme, including in-house and partner theatre performances
Collaborate with the Director to align the project with Jigsaw's values and termly goals
Create a safe, inclusive, and empowering space for all participants
Provide pastoral support and build strong relationships with students and families
Attend key events and meetings, including the NT Connections Directors' Weekend
Communicate effectively with staff, students, and external partners throughout the project timeline
