Research on Youth Theatre in a virtual environment

Monday 2 November 2020

Annabel Weeden has recently completed an MA in Applied Theatre & Intervention, looking at youth theatre in a virtual environment. Annabel writes:

“During the COVID-19 pandemic UK national lockdown, youth theatre practitioners and their young people were stripped of the capabilities for working together in the same physical room. When youth theatre practitioners took to working with their groups online, this research aimed to find out what a group is; what a group does; and the potential for togetherness when experienced in a virtual environment. The findings demonstrate that a sense of 'community' and 'togetherness' are certainly possible, and youth theatre practitioners found that a shared goal, common interests and ground rules could lead to a sense of unity.”
