This play is suitable for a large cast of 5-7s. This play is set inside a beehive, and the cast play bees in the colony. Each bee works in a team; house bees, builder bees, scout bees, forager bees guard bees, drones and royal protectors. The old queen is a non -speaking part for an adult assistant, or older Youth Theatre member. The play opens with a whole cast ‘rap’ as each group introduce themselves. We meet Cobi, a free thinking bee, who leads some unconventional dance moves. This gets him into trouble with the royal protectors who scorn his impulsive behaviour. They chant ‘Time is honey!’ and order them back to work.”

Jenna says:

“This fun play was written in response to the mystery of the disappearance of honey bees. It was written in consultation with two beekeepers and is scientifically accurate. Children will learn about the structure of a honey bee colony in a playful, theatrical way. There is opportunity to develop great individual characters and work as a chorus too. It includes a waggle dance, music suggestions and low budget staging ideas. The ‘bee rap’ was written by the original cast, and seeds can be given out to the audience.  There is also the option to devise an ending- What happens to the bees?”
