The Kings Youth Theatre seeks to give all young people from the ages of 7 – 17 years old the opportunity to not only explore, participate and engage in all the aspects of making theatre, but learn what it takes to devise, create and produce professional theatrical productions but also to express themselves, build confidence and develop their imagination in a safe and creative environment. Under the direction of Joanna Bennington and her team, fun-packed Saturday classes (term-time only) are specifically tailored to each age group, exploring the performing arts through games, character improvisation, script work and performance. As well as weekly classes and the opportunity of performing at the prestigious Kings Theatre, we also offer many other opportunities: to performing and touring shows to other venues around Portsmouth and further afield, appearing in public and at festivals and international performances. Every summer we produce a large scale musical to culminate our year of teaching, which the students thoroughly enjoy and each year the standard of our students soar. Launched in April 2010, with just a handful of students, word has spread and the youth theatre has gone onto grow and expand into the 4 (5) teaching groups that we have now.
