National Youth Theatre of Wales

National Youth Theatre of Wales (NYTW) sits within the umbrella National Youth Arts Wales organisation and works with partners and industry professionals to offer world-class training and performance opportunities for Wales’ most talented young people. NYTW is proud of its illustrious roll-call of previous members who have gone on to excel as performers, writers and directors including Michael Sheen, Matthew Rhys, Rakie Ayola, Ruth Jones and Caroline Sheen amongst others. For over 40 years this flagship for youth theatre in Wales has nurtured the talent and ambition of thousands of young people by delivering diverse and risk-taking performances alongside training programmes that build pathways into the creative industries. We are dedicated to giving those between the age of 16 and 22 the platform to thrive regardless of background and circumstance and we pride ourselves on delivering a bilingual programme (Welsh and English) of activity rooted in excellence for our members. Every year we audition across the length and breadth of Wales in the Autumn to recruit for that year’s ensemble and those successful immediately become a NYTW ensemble member for 9 months duration. Being a member means they get access not only to performance opportunities at the end of the residential element taking place each summer, but also access to high calibre development workshops and masterclasses and the chance to work alongside some of the leading practitioners working within the industry today. We do not have a dedicated building as work closely with theatre venues where we run our residencies and sessions.
